On Power

“The law isn’t about Justice. It isn’t about what’s right. It isn’t about what’s wrong.” That’s what they don’t teach you in law school, and what every paralegal learns in the second decade. It’s about Power.

📱

And the law trumps medicine, because the judge (a former lawyer) is the ultimate decider. Right now we are seeing businessmen running the show, but lawyers will regain the power soon enough – they’ve spent centuries consolidating it (more than half the presidents were lawyers, and the entire judiciary, and most of Congress). The law reigns above everything, except money.

💵

The myth of a rich ex-wife is just that: a myth. Once the lawyer archetype decides he doesn’t want her anymore, that she’s no longer fuckable, she’s disposed of, left to rot on Tinder. Sloppy Seconds. There she is just another accommodation, like she was to her ex-husband at first.

🥀

Even a woman with a job and means of her own is so bogged down by the psychological burdens of taking care of a man, let alone children, that she has little escape, especially if he abuses her, like her mother and grandmothers before her. The coffee, the bedmaking, the laundry, the dry cleaning, the dishes, the pet care, breakfast, lunch, dinner, sexual gratification, intellectual stimulation, mood regulation, and that’s just a childless Tuesday.

📅

As women, we are living in a dystopia that we need to wake up from. When will we wake up? Gloria Steinem is dead, RIP. Dolly Parton is dead, RIP. The icons are dying, and no one is taking their places. Where did all the leaders go? We just have this surreal world where women think it’s acceptable to be treated like an accommodation, and it needs to stop. Get the fuck off the merry-go-round, Taylor.

A black-and-white illustration of a balance scale on a white background. The scale is tilted, with the left side hanging low under a large square weight. The left pan holds a stack of about six plates. The right side is lifted up, and its pan holds a small stick figure in a long dress who is holding a phone with a heart on the screen. The dishes clearly outweigh the figure.
