Forgiveness - A Poem

I had to forgive a person
who wasn’t even sorry.
She said my name
Imbuing blame
Much to my shame.
I had to let go and
She didn’t even care
Didn’t scare
Or even swear.
She told me I was wrong
Girl, sing your song
The hurt hit long
I was just 6, not strong.
I wonder now
Just, thinking, how
She used to yell so loud
I only tried to make her proud.
I failed at that endeavor
Trying to get us to be together
A mother and daughter should be forever
But for us I could only grey rock sever.
I did it to protect the little girl within
Me, because she is my pride and joy
Trying to find every fault and sin
Seeks not to find, but to destroy.
So I forgive this person
Who isn’t even sorry
To set the little girl in me
Finally truly free
With just the littlest bit of glee.
